Treadmill Running Workouts that Really Kick Butt

Looking for good treadmill running workouts? Then check out this section for treadmill running workouts that really kick butt!

Treadmill running can be a lifesaver when you don't have time to drive to your favorite outdoor running destination, the snowmen are blocking the sidewalks, or the weather takes a sudden plunge into below freezing temperatures.

You don't have to give up your runs until time and the weather gives in to your prayers. You just have to find effective treadmill running workouts and keep them close at hand.

Treadmill Running Workout #1: Speed Kicker

One way to create a thrilling treadmill running workout which never gets boring is to develop sets which continually push your legs to go faster and faster. You start out at a comfortable running pace and each quarter or half mile you pump your speed up a notch.

You will find yourself anticipating each increase in speed and by the end you will have endured a heart-pumping workout that never lost your attention.

Just be certain to plan your starting and ending speeds so that you do not overstep what you are capable of realistically doing. You can adjust the intervals at which you increase speed in order to end up at the maximum end of your running capabilities.

Push yourself a little at the end and you may surprise yourself at what you can really do!

Treadmill Running Workout #2: Hill Blaster

Do you find it more challenging to run the hills? If you don't have hills where you train, then this could be a great workout that delivers something a little different from what you are used to.

If you are used to hills, then it can give you a great workout in line with your normal training routines without venturing outdoors.

This is basically like an interval training strategy, but instead of rotating between speeds you rotate between running on an incline and running flat. The amount of incline can be adjusted according to your current running skills and mood, but you should switch between them at regularly timed intervals.

Each set of rotation will mimic running up and down hills, especially if you are on a treadmill that will decline as if running down the other side of the hill.

Treadmill Running Workout #3: Stack the Pyramid

This is a very challenging yet quite fun treadmill running workout which will challenge you to step out of your comfort zone. That's a good thing from time to time, right?

Think of each set in this workout as a layer leading to the top of a pyramid and then back down again in your mind. You start by doing 1 minute runs at 2, 3 and then 4 percent incline.

Recover for a few minutes running flat and then incline for 1 minute each at 3, 4 and 5 percent incline. Recover and then run for 1 minute each at 4, 5, and 6 percent incline.

Recover and then start the downward trek with 1 minute runs at 5, 4, and 3 inch incline. Recover and continue with 4, 3, and 2 inch incline runs. Make sure to finish up with a nice cool down because you're heart rate is going to hit the roof!

These treadmill running workouts are all reasonably challenging and can be adjusted based on your fitness levels.

This ensures that they will never get too boring or easy for you.

So, no matter what the weather may be doing or what other reason you have to not go outdoors for your runs, you now have some treadmill running workout ideas to use.

Because you can always use the workouts above, or some variation of these workouts to fit your current situation.
